Atlanta hosted the Red Bull Soap Box Derby today, and I had a brief spell on nostalgia. I was reminiscing on my memories in San Francisco which made me feel a little empty, west coast empty. Instead of the nice 70 degree weather, it was 90 plus and a lot more crowded then in California. The course also was not as intense, with a tiny jump in comparison to San Francisco.

Red Bull Soap Box Derby
August 29, 2009Georgia Tech Regency Suites Invitational
August 29, 2009Today was the start of the Volleyball season for the women, and it started out with a blast. I was kind of nervous and excited since I haven’t both shot volleyball and shot sports in general in a while. The gymnasium was somewhat dark, and I was happy I just got my 85mm 1.4D. Anxiously awaiting, we start off with the common serve. I never knew girls could jump so high.

Yosemite – Glacier Point
August 23, 2009So I forgot to update my panorama picture that I took last week. There were so many views of the Valley that were breathtaking, but this one was specially interesting due to the fact that we were able to see the distance we covered the previous day. I hope I will be able to visit another day, and try to visit all these parks in the future – the national parks of the United States.

Yosemite – Half Dome
August 13, 2009Half Dome is a 16 mile hike round trip which is described as an extremely strenuous hike. Hikers are usually suppose to eat twice as much in a day and consume atleast 3 liters of water. We were a little unprepared for this hike, with me only taking a liter nalgene but we did have enough food. The beginning is an easy hike up to Vernal falls, which is a beauty from far away.

Yosemite – Mirror Lake
August 12, 2009So as we headed back to Melody’s home in Yorba Linda, we are soon turned to a new destination of Yosemite. There have been many fires recently in the park, so the sky has not been treating the views kindly. Instead haze is spread around, reducing the view to become not so ideal. Well, here is the view of Yosemite Valley right outside of the tunnel – known as tunnel view.

Zion National Park
August 8, 2009Yesterday was a day full of hiking, and this means three trails totaling in roughly 12 miles. Melody and I decided to hike the first route which would connect the bottom half with the top – the emerald pools trails. It was a bit disappointing with the name indicating a more amazing view, but was still worth it at the top emerald pool. This is a picture of us looking up 300 feet at the top of the falls.

Kolob Canyon
August 7, 2009So today, our destination was Zion National Park, but we were suprised by a new park that housed the Kolob Canyon. It is amazing how these canyons are formed and the true beauty of them.

Denver
August 6, 2009Today we drove from Kansas, the city if nothingness to somewhere a bit more exhilarating, Colorado. Melody and I have been travelling so much that we got a free room at the Ritz Carlton – all we paid was tax. Well here is the entrance to our extravagant suite.

Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve
August 5, 2009The morning started off with a cup of joe and the Double Tree chocolate chip cookie. It was a nice way to get up, and also a way to be prepared for the 5 hour drive ahead of us.

St. Louis
August 3, 2009On our way back to LA from Atlanta and Melody has an itinerary for us, with the grand finale being Zion National Park. So we left today for our first destination of St. Louis, MS. It was nice to actually see the major cities of the United States, but was disappointing when we realized that the restaurant we wanted to eat at was “sold out.” Note to self next time, call ahead or be early when trying to get to Pappy’s Smokehouse.
