Meet the visionaries at The Expressionary. A place where you can “express yourself like never before.” Both of these Chemical Engineering Georgia Tech graduates decided to throw away the notion of “normal,” and pursue something they are passionate about. Melody and her Sister Marisa visited Atlanta this past weekend. It was Marisa’s first time in Atlanta, and I guess we had to do all the “typical” tourist stuff in Atlanta. So of course we had to visit the Coca Cola Museum during her first days. Here is Melody and Marisa posing for a photo in the lobby of the Coca Cola Museum.

After the Museum, we headed to the Georgia Aquarium – another must. This time the duo stopped by the “petting” area.

I don’t know why this guy belongs in the Ocean Scout exhibit, I thought Lion fish were salt water fish.

Columbia sponsored Muddy Buddy visited Atlanta at the Georgia International Horse Park. This would mark my third Muddy Buddy event, with previous locations being both Atlanta and Los Angeles. This event is one of the most fun racing events that I have competed in due to the obstacle course during exchanges as well as the mud pit at the end. As always, my brother and I signed up to compete and finally recruited some of our friends to test it out. We arrived in my brothers new “whip” with my rockhopper attached on top.

Unfortunately, I was unable to take more photos during the race and of other people through the pit. But I still got a few good photos of the end. this is the last section where all mountain bikes are dropped off before the mud pit.

A watering hole was located a few steps away to rinse off the grime. Unfortunately there were few hoses so some people had to wait for the mud to cake.

One of the unique things about the race is also the costume contest. Here is one example of a team, the wrestlers, celebrating with another team.

Muddy Buddy metals are awarded to the top 5 finishers of each division, which is grouped by the sum of the group member’s ages.

And a beer garden for all the racers, above the age of 21 of course, sponsored by Red Hook.

Of course Cooper was dying for a taste as well.

I was excited to see that there were clear skies and was rushing to catch the sunset at the perimeter. I’ve always wanted to photograph these buildings but never had the time. These last Atlanta series will be one of my last in this wonderful city. I hope this will provide a lasting memory for myself.

I just got two different angles, didn’t know what I liked the best so I will show both.

My family and I visited the High Museum in downtown Atlanta to see the final days of the History of the Automobile. I was excited to see the evolution of this modern monster, and it was truly fascinating. Designs have changed significantly and also have been pretty similar. I would like to see some of these designs come back into contemporary design. We first arrived at the welcoming marble sign of the High Museum.

And we waited in line to get our tickets. It’s great because the first week of every month the High Museum allows Fulton county residence and school students to enter for free.

While waiting for the exhibit to be available for our time slot, my family decided to partake in some arts and crafts at this neat little booth. They were there in order to make vases that resemble grass.

And then we were off to wait in line for the History of the Automobile. I don’t know the makes and models but here are some detailed shots and overviews.

When the Automobile exhibit closed, we were forced to other parts of the museum. I love contemporary art, so we ventured upstairs.

As many of the Georgia Tech students know, a Waffle House will be opening up at Tech Square. This means that there will be food 24/7 around campus, especially for the fraternities. The Waffle House is owned by a recent Georgia Tech Alum and he was happy to show me and the Georgia Tech Alumni Magazine around.

I was excited to hear that the Georgia Tech Alumni Magazine was going to run a story about a summer reading list. This was because a group of my friends just made a list of books to read before we die. What a coincidence that this was going to happen. I just finished reading one of the books, 1984, and was eager to see what professors, staff or students were suggesting. Well I got a book list at the end of this post for a few of my books, but if you want more contact me. First up is Paul Verhaeghen, an associate psychology professor leisurely reading on the library fountains.

Next up is Tonya Johnson, Georgia Tech Volleyball head coach, reading in the O’Keefe Auditorium.

Jerimiah McClary was part of the 1990 Georgia Tech national champions. He has gained excess weight over the years after living an athlete’s lifestyle. It is hard for athletes to maintain a normal body weight due to their previous training regiment, which requires them to eat a lot more then an average person. This story will be featured in the GT Alumni Magazine regarding his attempt to lose weight as well as begin a program for other struggling athletes.

Ellen Dunham-Jones is a Georgia Tech architecture professor who recently wrote a book entitled “Retrofitting Suburbia.” This book discusses the possibilities of redesigning urban and suburban cities. The main emphasis is to reuse and recycle materials currently being used for future cities to allow for sustainable cities.

The 33rd annual Atlanta Jazz Festival was hosted at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia. It is a time to unwind and express yourself through the arts, especially music. There were two stages for performances, the main one located on the lawn and a slightly smaller stage a few feet away. Its fascinating that although Atlanta is not the birthplace of this genre of music, it is considered the largest free jazz festival in the country.
