While the Angels were still in the race for the division, there was more attention and media coverage wanting to track their route to a potential playoff push. I was able to cover the whole Oakland A’s series against the Angels, where they showed their second wind. It was evident, that this past year was a year of upsets, especially for the Red Sox and the eventual World Series winner’s, the St. Louis Cardinals. The Pittsburgh Pirates were visiting a slumping club, the Los Angeles Dodgers. But, this series proved that the Dodgers could not be disregarded. I was pretty excited to be asked to cover the New York Yankees when they visited Los Angeles, but I was more excited by the timing of it. This was during the September 11th reunion. The Yankees have been giving hope to a state, and a country through their perseverance. It also gave hope to a state and nation devastated by the September 11th tragedy. The Los Angeles Dodgers had a rough year, dealing with more than the woes of a losing season, but also the distractions of ownership and payroll. It is tough to watch this organization deteriorate from the inside due to leadership. But I’m sure the franchise will bounce back, with its history and tradition guiding the way. I shot the Colorado Rockies visiting the Los Angeles Dodgers, which was surprisingly close. The Rockies were able to edge out with a final score of 7-6. Here are a few shots from the game, and a summation of what their season has been like. Well, lets start off with Don Mattingly, the first year manager. Just as the Angels started to heat up, they also started to fizz out. I shot a blow out of the White Sox, where the final score ended up being 8-0. It’s sad that the Angels eventually didn’t make it to the playoffs, but this year they have a lot invested and are hoping to make that step back up to the top. I’ve been trying to get some more unique shots, but everything seems to be done. Well atleast I can get some different shots for the wire, makes people choose mine over others. So I shot up stairs for a few innings. I also plan on going to the very top of the stadium to get some others in future games. I learned a lesson even before stepping on the asphalt of the Angel’s Stadium parking lot. Always arrive early and prepared for all games, even if the schedule online tells you the wrong time. I usually am aware of my situation, and my scheduling for my day. I rarely use an agenda since I check times and remember my meetings. Well I checked the Angel’s schedule a week before, which told me the game started an hour after it actually did. Little did I know, the best play of the day would happen in the first inning, with a play at home. Lesson learned. The season was heating up, with the Angels chasing the Rangers for the division. Minnesota Twins came to visit which resulted in the Angels catching, due to Mark Trumbo’s efforts offensively. The game ended with Trumbo hitting a three run homerun, but the Angels didn’t need that and won 7-1. I was always irritated by the Angel’s third base coach Dino. He would always creep back and forth, so you wouldn’t know what to expect when shooting a play at home. Well, he blocked me on this shot that would have been better if there wasn’t legs in the foreground. July 4th is always a memorable occasion, but this year I covered the Detroit Tigers at the Los Angeles Angels. The pre game celebrations for these events are always a great tribute to our past and present. I decided to try to get a whole field view of the flag prior to the game so I wanted a higher angle. The Los Angeles Angels were able to make the game a great one for the fans, winning 5-1.
