With the Memphis Grizzlies facing off against the Los Angeles Clippers during the first round of the playoffs, I feel like it is appropriate to showcase the two teams during the regular season. It has been a surprising turn around for the Clippers from the season before, which includes an upgraded roster. But it wasn’t known if they would be able to battle through a playoffs series. Well during the regular season, it looks like the Clippers were pretty well matched but were able to edge out the Grizzlies in both games I covered. Here are a few photos from the two games. The Big West powerhouses match up in Santa Barbara in what seems like the Big West conference tournament finals. They did eventually meet up in the finals, which ended up as another explosive game. Although the score didn’t reflect it, this game was as exciting as it could be. I had a remote setup across the court to capture all the action, which I was really glad I did. There are many times during my time shooting sports that I am faced with a non-ideal situation. Here I present one of them, at the LMU Gersten Pavilion. FIrst, the lighting was very dark, and second, the color temperature was just horrible. Well you kind of have to play the cards that you are dealt, so I tried to make the best of it. Although the Bruins have been in a slump this year, they had some bright spots going against the PAC-12. While they faced the Arizona Sun Devils in their new home at the Honda Center, they were able to win in a lopsided game. The Bruins ended up defeating the Arizona State Sun Devils 75-58. I decided to have a little bit of fun and experimentation while covering the TCU Horned Frog’s visit at the Galen Center to play the USC Trojans. I setup a remote camera across to court to ensure that I wasn’t going to miss a shot. This proved to be a really cool experiment that gave me some really interesting shots while the players attacked the rim on both sides. While the Trojans are struggling this season, they were able to edge out the Horned Frogs with a final score of 83-59. I don’t usually make the trip up to Westwood to cover a game, but there are some games in particular that might need a little extra media attention. This was the case when the Lady Volunteers visited UCLA at their new home this season, the John Wooden Center. Pauley Pavilion was undergoing some renovations, which provided an extra hurdle in terms of photography. The lights were low and eradiating a weird hue, but the game was as good as any would get. What should have been a easy game for the UNLV Rebels, turned out be a game where they walked a thin line. UCSB knows when to show up for games, lead by Orlando Johnson. I was able to set up a floor remote to get a different angle of the game, which is cool to see the comparison shots between my long lens and wide. The game eventually ended up with the Runnin’ Rebels winning 84-88 in double overtime. This was unfortunate for me because I still had my long drive back to Los Angeles. I was asked to shoot some more NBA action after taking some stock images at the Sprint Series Auto Club 300. It was kind of hectic since I didn’t know when I should leave, LA traffic is always very unpredictable. I decided to leave early just in case there were any accidents or unknown traffic stops. This was the first time I would be shooting the team after the trade deadline, which means no more Baron Davis but an additional Mo Williams. It was great to see this young team play again, it looks like they are going to finally make it into the playoffs next year. It was somewhat awkward though to see the Clippers following a quicker Raptors’ game pace. The Los Angeles Clippers won 94-90.

I was asked to cover for the PAC-10 championship game at the Staples Center yesterday because a photog cancelled. I guess I got lucky to get this opportunity since I was only suppose to cover the women’s game. I didn’t know that the game would be this close, and an overtime buzzer beater. The game ended with the final score of 77-75 with Isaiah Thomas getting the last shot at the buzzer. The day started off a little different, since I knew it was a big game I tried to get something different in the beginning of the game.  I went up to the upper deck and got a overall general view of the stadium, something I haven’t done at the the Staples Center as of today.

I also went towards the center and get the tip off. The Staples Center screen is cool too, since you can see the action below as well.

I wanted to try to get a photo of the tip off zoomed in as well, but you only get one try so I tried something different. But I liked this calm shot as well, right before anything really started up. Right after this I proceeded back down to finally get some action shots. We were asked to upload during the game to get a continuous flow of photos, so I had my computer setup court side.
