I was asked to shoot some more NBA action after taking some stock images at the Sprint Series Auto Club 300. It was kind of hectic since I didn’t know when I should leave, LA traffic is always very unpredictable. I decided to leave early just in case there were any accidents or unknown traffic stops. This was the first time I would be shooting the team after the trade deadline, which means no more Baron Davis but an additional Mo Williams. It was great to see this young team play again, it looks like they are going to finally make it into the playoffs next year. It was somewhat awkward though to see the Clippers following a quicker Raptors’ game pace. The Los Angeles Clippers won 94-90.

I was asked to cover for the PAC-10 championship game at the Staples Center yesterday because a photog cancelled. I guess I got lucky to get this opportunity since I was only suppose to cover the women’s game. I didn’t know that the game would be this close, and an overtime buzzer beater. The game ended with the final score of 77-75 with Isaiah Thomas getting the last shot at the buzzer. The day started off a little different, since I knew it was a big game I tried to get something different in the beginning of the game.  I went up to the upper deck and got a overall general view of the stadium, something I haven’t done at the the Staples Center as of today.

I also went towards the center and get the tip off. The Staples Center screen is cool too, since you can see the action below as well.

I wanted to try to get a photo of the tip off zoomed in as well, but you only get one try so I tried something different. But I liked this calm shot as well, right before anything really started up. Right after this I proceeded back down to finally get some action shots. We were asked to upload during the game to get a continuous flow of photos, so I had my computer setup court side.

I finally made it to my last basketball game, and the last assignment I had for about two weeks now. This was a very exciting game, with the Chicago Bulls coming to town facing the Los Angeles Clippers. I was asked to shoot the Bulls vs Lakers two days before Thanksgiving, but I was already headed to Georgia to meet my family. Well, this wasn’t really a game, but it is always exciting to see Blake Griffin play, and Derrick Rose is definitely another player that is very exciting to watch. I’d like to say this is more of a David vs Goliath, not the little guy versus big guy, but more of their style of play. Derrick Rose is a quick, nimble player while Blake Griffin uses his size and strength to muscle people around. The Chicago Bulls ended the game with a huge victory, 106-88.

Second day of my three day stint with the Staples Center, where the Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Houston Rockets. I was hoping to see a little bit of Yao Ming action, but unfortunately he has been hurt for the second year in a row. It was a close game though, without their star center with the game going into overtime. I don’t know what to say about the Lakers lately, but they haven’t been performing and are not looking like one of the top 4 teams in the league. We’ll see if they are able to turn it around, which they did in this game with a final score of 112-110.

The start of my busy week began when the Milwaukee Bucks visited the Los Angeles Clippers a few weeks back. I was skeptical on whether I would be able to stay on top of all my work with three back to back days of basketball games, but I ended up able to make ends meet and have a decent game. I didn’t really know what to expect, the Clippers were riding their high and learning how to win behind Blake Griffin. In the end the Clippers beat the Bucks 105-98. Another Women’s basketball PAC-10 match up with the Arizona State Sun Devils, which proved to be exciting till the final seconds. The game ended with the disappointed Women of Troy losing 62-61. I had fun though, since it was the first time I was going to shoot at the Galen Center as well as the availability to set up remotes. There aren’t many different locations that I can setup with limited time but I ended up getting one right in front of me again. But during the first half, some feet got in the way since other photographers, student photographers, don’t really understand that they were in my frame. I got to the Galen Center early so I could get another overview shot, just a reminder of where I’ve been.

I decided to give my new Sigma 85 1.4 a try to see if it could keep up with the fast pace of basketball, women’s is a little shower so it was a good game to start with. Overall, it does perform pretty well, but I would not be using it in situations where I will need every shot. The AF is just not as fast as my 70-200. I shot the tip off, not really an interesting shot, but just an illustration of the CA on the bright whites of the USC Trojans jerseys.

The Sacramento Kings visit the Los Angeles Lakers and end their 8-game losing streak, which raises some questions on whether the Lakers will be able to three-peat. There has been a lot of talk regarding the Lakers slump and ability to stay competitive in the off season. I was looking forward to seeing the Kings rookie DeMarcus Cousins as well as guard Tyreke Evans. Its fun to see the younger teams using more of their athletic ability to make plays, such as the Lakers guard Shannon Brown. A week or so ago, I was asked to shoot the Pac-10 NCAA basketball game between the UCLA Bruins and the Stanford Cardinal. IT is a lot different to shoot the NBA and college, which is the discipline of the game. There are far more aggressive moves in college which makes it a little more fun to shoot and watch. My family was in town when the Lakers were up against the Clippers. I was hoping they would be able to get some tickets to finally see Lakers game. But the prices were raised last minute and they eventually went to Manhattan Beach instead. But overall, this game was very high intensity with the Lakers defeating the Clippers during their last meeting. But this time the Clippers had a goal set, and was able to grind out a win.
