Long Beach 49er’s Mined into UC Santa Barbara

The Big West powerhouses match up in Santa Barbara in what seems like the Big West conference tournament finals. They did eventually meet up in the finals, which ended up as another explosive game. Although the score didn’t reflect it, this game was as exciting as it could be. I had a remote setup across the court to capture all the action, which I was really glad I did. Long Beach eventually had a blow out game, ending with a final score of 71-48. Here are a few photos I liked from the game. Long Beach State 49ers forward T.J. Gonzaga Visits in Conference against LMU

There are many times during my time shooting sports that I am faced with a non-ideal situation. Here I present one of them, at the LMU Gersten Pavilion. FIrst, the lighting was very dark, and second, the color temperature was just horrible. Well you kind of have to play the cards that you are dealt, so I tried to make the best of it. I don’t really like spending lots of time editing, since we are on deadline every single game. So you do your best and see what you can get. Arizona State Sun Devils Attempt to torch the UCLA Bruins

Although the Bruins have been in a slump this year, they had some bright spots going against the PAC-12. While they faced the Arizona Sun Devils in their new home at the Honda Center, they were able to win in a lopsided game. The Bruins ended up defeating the Arizona State Sun Devils 75-58. With the NCAA basketball season over, and a little time on my side, I am updating with a few games I shot this spring. First up is the UCLA Bruins taking on the Arizona Wildcats outside of Westwood. Their temporary home at the Honda Center gave them a lot of mileage to travel for a “home” game. Here are a few shots I liked from the day. 2012 Rosebowl: #10 Wisconsin vs. #5 Oregon

For the second year in a row, I was asked to cover the Rosebowl in Pasadena. This time around, the PAC 12 champions and the BIG 10 champions faced for a BCS bowl game. The match up looked like a high scoring game, and I wasn’t disappointed while covering the game. But before the game, I decided to walk around and cover some of the pregame activities as well as find some scenes around the Rosebowl. I was told before the game that I would have a station setup as an overhead spot, but still would be able to go down to shoot the game for the second and third quarters. Since I was in the overhead spot, I decided to walk up just before the pregame festivities started. I walked up to setup above one of the walkway tunnels and got a unique angle on at least the pregame, post game as well as the first and last quarter of the game. The Wisconsin marching band was a lot more interested from my perspective, so I had to get a few photos.

Horned Frogs, Not a Good Trojan Horse

I decided to have a little bit of fun and experimentation while covering the TCU Horned Frog’s visit at the Galen Center to play the USC Trojans. I setup a remote camera across to court to ensure that I wasn’t going to miss a shot. This proved to be a really cool experiment that gave me some really interesting shots while the players attacked the rim on both sides. While the Trojans are struggling this season, they were able to edge out the Horned Frogs with a final score of 83-59. Volunteers Clean Up at Bruin’s Den

I don’t usually make the trip up to Westwood to cover a game, but there are some games in particular that might need a little extra media attention. This was the case when the Lady Volunteers visited UCLA at their new home this season, the John Wooden Center. Pauley Pavilion was undergoing some renovations, which provided an extra hurdle in terms of photography. The lights were low and eradiating a weird hue, but the game was as good as any would get. UNLV Beached at UCSB

What should have been a easy game for the UNLV Rebels, turned out be a game where they walked a thin line. UCSB knows when to show up for games, lead by Orlando Johnson. I was able to set up a floor remote to get a different angle of the game, which is cool to see the comparison shots between my long lens and wide. The game eventually ended up with the Runnin’ Rebels winning 84-88 in double overtime. This was unfortunate for me because I still had my long drive back to Los Angeles. USC has won many games that came down to the final minutes of play during this past season, another example is with the Arizona Wildcats visited USC for a Pac-12 showdown. Syracuse Orange at USC

Ever since being admitted to USC, I have been wanted to go shoot a football game. The rein of the programs had been cut due to sanctions on the program, but this team was hungrier than ever. Although they had a recent loss to another Pac-12 school, the blood still lingered and gave them motivation to play harder. I was able to shoot the Syracuse at USC game and came out with decent results. Check out the photos below.
