USC has won many games that came down to the final minutes of play during this past season, another example is with the Arizona Wildcats visited USC for a Pac-12 showdown. Ever since being admitted to USC, I have been wanted to go shoot a football game. The rein of the programs had been cut due to sanctions on the program, but this team was hungrier than ever. Although they had a recent loss to another Pac-12 school, the blood still lingered and gave them motivation to play harder. I was able to shoot the Syracuse at USC game and came out with decent results. Check out the photos below. After the USC spring game, I had to head over to Westwood to get a few shots of the UCLA spring game as well. I was kind of in a time crunch, and wasn’t able to make it on time. Well I still was able to get a few good shots even though traffic and such held me back. Right as I got onto the Drake Stadium, a fade route was thrown right in front of me. I wasn’t even setup yet, with my gear bag still rolling. Well It was a football packed day with better lighting than earlier at USC.

This is a weird one, I couldn’t find the offensive guys name, but he put up a great stiff arm on UCLA Bruins linebacker Aaron Wallace.

I was excited to finally be asked to cover a USC football game, except this was a spring game with nothing on the line. I’ve been wanting to cover these games for US Presswire or the Daily Trojan, it’s just I am a rookie compared to people that already have been in the company or at the school for years. I haven’t had time to post since graduate school is ramping up on me again, but I have a few photos from the Women’s PAC-10 Championship game at the Staples center between the Stanford Cardinal and UCLA Bruins. I was asked to cover for the PAC-10 championship game at the Staples Center yesterday because a photog cancelled. I guess I got lucky to get this opportunity since I was only suppose to cover the women’s game. I didn’t know that the game would be this close, and an overtime buzzer beater. The game ended with the final score of 77-75 with Isaiah Thomas getting the last shot at the buzzer. The day started off a little different, since I knew it was a big game I tried to get something different in the beginning of the game.  I went up to the upper deck and got a overall general view of the stadium, something I haven’t done at the the Staples Center as of today.

I also went towards the center and get the tip off. The Staples Center screen is cool too, since you can see the action below as well.

I wanted to try to get a photo of the tip off zoomed in as well, but you only get one try so I tried something different. But I liked this calm shot as well, right before anything really started up. Right after this I proceeded back down to finally get some action shots. We were asked to upload during the game to get a continuous flow of photos, so I had my computer setup court side.

Another Women’s basketball PAC-10 match up with the Arizona State Sun Devils, which proved to be exciting till the final seconds. The game ended with the disappointed Women of Troy losing 62-61. I had fun though, since it was the first time I was going to shoot at the Galen Center as well as the availability to set up remotes. There aren’t many different locations that I can setup with limited time but I ended up getting one right in front of me again. But during the first half, some feet got in the way since other photographers, student photographers, don’t really understand that they were in my frame. I got to the Galen Center early so I could get another overview shot, just a reminder of where I’ve been.

I decided to give my new Sigma 85 1.4 a try to see if it could keep up with the fast pace of basketball, women’s is a little shower so it was a good game to start with. Overall, it does perform pretty well, but I would not be using it in situations where I will need every shot. The AF is just not as fast as my 70-200. I shot the tip off, not really an interesting shot, but just an illustration of the CA on the bright whites of the USC Trojans jerseys.

A week or so ago, I was asked to shoot the Pac-10 NCAA basketball game between the UCLA Bruins and the Stanford Cardinal. IT is a lot different to shoot the NBA and college, which is the discipline of the game. There are far more aggressive moves in college which makes it a little more fun to shoot and watch. This is probably why everyone loves to watch March Madness. Well I expected Stanford to win, but UCLA is having a better season than I expected winning the game 68-57. I covered the Women’s basketball USC at UCLA game the other week for the Daily Trojan, and was hoping for more action for these cross town rivals. I was finally able to setup a floor remote for the first time in a while, I’m not really allowed in NBA games but I’m trying to find out how. I got a few good images for a Women’s game, but wanted to see a little more intensity in this game. I started out in the stands, to get a different view of the beginning of the game.  The UCLA Bruins defeated the USC Trojans 61-42.

The start of my new year was full of football, the Rosebowl between #3 TCU and #5 Wisconsin. I was feeling a little bad from the day before, New Years Eve, and regretted my decisions. I felt like I had an ok day in all, wishing I was a little sharper to produce a little better. But here are the photos of the day, with TCU crowned victorious with a final score of 21-19. This marked the first time a non-BCS team was playing in the Rosebowl, pretty substantial. First, I got a few photos pregame, such as the Rosebowl pad on the goal post with the color separation in the background.
