Horned Frogs, Not a Good Trojan Horse

I decided to have a little bit of fun and experimentation while covering the TCU Horned Frog’s visit at the Galen Center to play the USC Trojans. I setup a remote camera across to court to ensure that I wasn’t going to miss a shot. This proved to be a really cool experiment that gave me some really interesting shots while the players attacked the rim on both sides. While the Trojans are struggling this season, they were able to edge out the Horned Frogs with a final score of 83-59. Arizona at Southern California

USC has won many games that came down to the final minutes of play during this past season, another example is with the Arizona Wildcats visited USC for a Pac-12 showdown. The game was offensively driven, with a lack of defense that resulted in USC winning 48-41. Here are a few photos I liked from the game, enjoy. Syracuse Orange at USC

Ever since being admitted to USC, I have been wanted to go shoot a football game. The rein of the programs had been cut due to sanctions on the program, but this team was hungrier than ever. Although they had a recent loss to another Pac-12 school, the blood still lingered and gave them motivation to play harder. I was able to shoot the Syracuse at USC game and came out with decent results. Check out the photos below. Melody, MSBME – A Trojan Graduation

I was invited to the 2011 USC graduation both by the Daily Trojan and Melody, and to shoot for both as well! I got the best seats in the house for the ceremony, in front of the front row! I decided to get a few shots of the professors and faculty walking onto the stage as well as the students walking to their seats in the morning session.

Armani Lab

My lab group takes a new group photo each year to track the changing group members. We are getting three new Ph. D. students in the fall but there won’t be any time to get that photo until next year so my advisor, Andrea Armani, asked me to help take the photo as well as a few shots inside our lab. The Armani Lab works with biodetection through optical sensors,

Biophotonics describes the intersection of light and biology. This field is very broad, covering research from chip-based microscopy to optical biosensors. In the lab of Prof. Andrea Armani at the University of Southern California, we focus on the development and integration of optical devices for studying biological and chemical systems. This includes using previously studied and characterized optical devices, such as waveguides, as well as developing novel optical structures. We also design new surface functionalizations and investigate material behavior. Therefore, the Armani lab spans many fields, including optics, chemistry, and biology.

LA Times Festival of Books

The LA Times festival of books was held at USC this year, rather than in Westwood where it usually is located. This may be a campaign to reach the lower class demographic and encourage education and reading. I didn’t really have any interest in the vendors, but it is always great to go see what is there. I brought blad along to capture some of the moments. What I wasn’t able to capture was the heat, and sheer volume of people.

I also got a photo of Melody by the cinema school, since this is one of the best looking place on campus.

Mork Donation at USC

John and Julie Mork have been a big part of my graduate career. My Chemical and Material Science Engineering department was named after them, the Mork Family department. But they rose to the occasion again, while in a recession, to donate another $110 million for undergraduate students. Here are a few photos from the event when I covered it for the Daily Trojan.

I was excited to finally be asked to cover a USC football game, except this was a spring game with nothing on the line. I’ve been wanting to cover these games for US Presswire or the Daily Trojan, it’s just I am a rookie compared to people that already have been in the company or at the school for years. Well it was good to get a few shots of the spring game with the “Cardinal” offensive team versus the “White” defensive team. The defense really stepped it up compared to last season, causing the offense to struggle slightly. USC Trojans quarterback Matt Barkley prepares to throw the ball.

USC Walkout For a Safer Campus

A month or so ago, I took a few shots while there was a walkout for a safer campus. I unfortunately missed the “protesting,” but got a few interesting shots while a speaker was talking. I hope this raises a little more awareness for all that have been affected or involved in any of these acts of violence.

USC named International Safe Community

USC was named an International Safe Community today, which is the first in the world. I was covering this event for the Daily Trojan so I thought I would share it with the online community. Here are some of the shots I got that I liked today, including the little ceremony in front of Tommy Trojan with speaker President Nikias.
