Our Amazon trip started off in the capital city of Lima, arriving approximately at midnight to be greeted by an International Expedition host for our nightly stay in the Swissotel. I was amazed by these five star hotels due to my current frugal lifestyle and had to enjoy what I was spoiled with. I was hoping we would be able to tour the Capital for a little longer, or atleast get a few more hours; instead we were capped off with a morning and afternoon which started with a nice breakfast. The pots facial expressions topped off a wonderful selection of Tamales.

As we were approaching a historic colonial building, sorry for the lack of knowledge on which building, we passed by a corridor that was reminiscent of the shopping plazas in Europe.

As we toured the building, Melody stood on her toe tips to grab a quick picture of the zodiac.

Wall tiles that were prevalent throughout the property.

Wonderful ceiling tops were very ornate with wonderful wood carvings.

It is pretty interesting to see all the security around the Main Square as if they were ready for riots.

The riot shields on a street corner.

Next we visited the Lima Cathedral, a somewhat classical and contemporary church.

Francisco Pizzaro’s shrine, the founder of Peru.

And some more detailed shots of the Cathedral.

More policia.

The catacombs of Lima, which a guest deemed the “finest collection of Femurs.”

Yes, I think that is right. So you were in Machu Picchu as well? I will hopefully be putting some photos up of that amazing place in a few days. Where else did you travel to around Peru? Anywhere else in South America?
I spent two days in Lima and about two weeks in Cusco – I was working in a medical clinic there, so I couldn’t venture very far. We took a day trip to Machu Picchu, an afternoon trip to the ruins in Pisac, went on two medical “campaigns” in smaller villages (Oropesa and Combapata), and, of course, did quite a bit of exploring in Cusco. Wish I had had time to do something like you’ve been doing, it looks like you’ve had an amazing trip!
I went to that same shopping center/corridor(?) in Lima last month! The one by the Plaza de Armas, right?
