Amazon: Journey through the River Basin

Our second day on the International Expedition’s Amazon river cruise would be a long one. It was one of the earlier starts at around 6:30 am which included a breakfast on the boat. I was amazed by that biodiversity that could be seen right off of our excursion boats including this sloth that was way up on the tree tops. Again I am sorry if I do not know the species name currently, the list that we got is not in my possession at this time.

Snowy egrets were also seen quite frequently.

Unexpectedly a local fisherman was seen while we were wandering the tributaries of the Amazon. He educated us of the different species found within the river such as this catfish.

The other excursion boat was land locked due to the shallow waters, local fisherman were called upon for some assistance.

Our breakfast on the River, quite intimate.

King Fisher landing on his pole.

“Cameron” is what the name sounded like, taking off.

Great Egrets

Long nose bats.

Later we stopped for a little shopping adventure with the native river people.

The same fisherman we saw earlier supposedly found this sloth, with its baby, floating across the river.

Giant catfish caught by another local fisherman.

Later that night, due to the weather for our afternoon excursion, we went Cai Man hunting in the rain.
