Before arriving at Memphis, Tennessee and the Mississippi River, we were reading to look for some delicious barbecue to be consumed. My brother talked to several of his co-workers, who suggested a place called Rendezvous. Well, that was our first destination and dinner for the day that we left. All I knew of was Beale street from a previous visit, but had no suggestions for other things to do.
On the way to Rendezvous, we discovered their distribution center, which was the address on the GPS. I saw this cool wall of fish outside of the restaurant.
And the actual restaurant, with the entrance inside of an alley.
The barbecue was delicious. Memphis’ dry rub style accentuates the smokey flavor instead of covering up the meat’s flavor with overpowering sauce. Although this was a suggested barbecue restaurant, talking to locals they suggested another restaurant named Corky’s, that we also tried.
After dinner, we headed down to Beale street. I noticed that all the horse carriages on the road had dogs as co-pilots. Here is an example.
Beale street is probably one of the most visited streets in Memphis. It hosts tons of bars and clubs as well as performers on the street. Memphis describes this area as a Bourbon street of Tennessee.
A view of Beale street from the second half of the street. It isn’t that big of an area, but definitely very lively.
And the police chillin, this was before all the people tried to get in. Later, we were carded in order to get on Beale street.
And the “big ass beers” that are sold on the street. I guess its a must have, it was hot so cold beer was necessary.
The next day, we visited Elvis Presley’s estate, Graceland.
A tour of the mansion included an audio tour that gave you various different facts about the house and its contents.
The next few pictures are the more interesting rooms.
Elvis’ daughter’s swing set. Very old school, which brings back memories of childhood times.
Elvis’ RCA golden record and awards hall.
There were also displays of various outfits and things of Elvis’ life.
And his racquetball room, which was used to store his famous apparel used in various shows.
The meditation garden, for remembrance of Elvis and his relatives that have passed.
We then visited his automobile collection, this being his most famous pink Cadillac.
And his two private jets, impressive presently and at the time.
Gus’s Famous Fried Chicken, food stop number two.
This restaurant is amazing, not decorated for the general public but there just for food.
The Menu.
And the fried chicken, which was cooked perfectly with crisp skin and a slight spicy kick. Definitely very delicious friend chicken.
