Portland was a destination put on my list during my last minute planning from Mt St Helen. I didn’t want to put my mother through another long night of camping so I decided that we rather stop off in a city and get a hotel. I knew that there was a lot to do in this town, but didn’t know that it was this dense in it’s offerings. A must see is the Columbia River Gorge, first brought to my mind by Melody. I saw some pictures of Multnomah Falls and fell in love. I knew that this waterfall was beautiful and had to get a chance to photograph it.
Later that day we decided to visit the Saturday Market, which was on accident. I was driving to our hotel for check-in and saw these white tents setup on the side of the road. Little did I know that this was a weekly event called the Saturday Market which allows independent booth owners to sell their little crafts and food.
Our first attempt to Voodoo Doughnut was cut short. There is always a long line to this place. I didn’t expect it to wrap around the whole building. Instead I decided to pass it up to head to Powell’s bookstore and found this neat sign across the street from Voodoo.
On our walk to Powell’s we stumbled upon another neat event going on, Portland Beerfest. There were many beer offerings, from draught to bottle as well as domestic and international.
Our dinner at Jake’s Famous Crawfish
And my final attempt at Voodoo Doughnut lasted roughly 30 minutes in line. This store is by far the most overrated place I have been. If you do want to try the Bacon Maple doughnut, it is good but definitely not worth the 30 minute wait.
