Another day, although our last, means another adventure. This time our excursion would be through a man powered boat, and that was ourselves. We were going to navigate through a man made pond that protected wildlife, like a reserve. The first animal to be sighted was an iguana, which I though was interesting from below.

and the side.

We were also fortunate enough to spot a few birds, which I still find fascinating.

Most importantly, everyone was excited to see the Capybara. Here is the other boat ready to take their shots.

And I was able to document their escape.

They were on high alert, but they weren’t very exciting to watch. It was more like they were just watching us and observing.

I was also able to spot this very colorful bird up in the trees.

There were also many different types of insects around, which will be also spotlighted later in the post. Here is a dragonfly that stopped on our canoe.

Our short hike in the forest was the Leiba Hike.

The canoes that we were rowing.

Our guide, Robinson, helped show us an up close view on many different species in the Amazon rain forest.

Fire ants were also everywhere, which is also prevalent in the south of North America.

Wild Mushrooms.

Little reptilian creature that Robinson was able to capture for a demonstration. It was so scared it pooped everywhere.

And also a tin tree frog was on display.

Creepy crawlers, I shouldn’t have gotten so close.

Blue dragon fly.

Red dragon fly.

And some long nosed bats, which we saw quite frequently.

I loved these shovels, which read, “I planted a tree in the Amazon.”

Red beak which I found interesting. I missed a lot of other opportunities of red birds due to the distance. I am hoping I could be more well equipped next time.

and a large caterpillar.

The sunset.

The next day we were dropped off at Nauta, to get on a car to Iquitos for our flight back to Lima. Nauta was surprisingly undeveloped for a large city.

Or possibly, Iquitos was so modern, every adjacent city seemed rural.

Iquitos was quite interesting with its colorful church in the main square. The city was bustling and full of people. It would have been nice to spend a little more time to discover the city.

It was also underdeveloped, with collapsing buildings. This may have been due to the earthquakes that strike relatively frequently.
