I remembered the other day that Melody’s sister, Marisa found an old camera at their place. I asked Melody if it would be ok if I played with it, but it looks like it might take a little more work and money. I am looking into developing my own black and white film from the old school Rolleiflex as well as a possible CLA, Clean, Lube and Adjust. This might turn into an expensive refurbish project. Well the first thing was, I asked Melody if she wanted to go back to the Flower District, unfortunately I didn’t have a memory card in my camera so there were no other pictures, but I did get some of the flowers Melody purchased, some Gerbers.

I really wanted to get some photos from the camera, except I needed to learn how to use it so I ended up trying to clean it instead. I figured out the loading of film, which was pretty neat. Lets just hope the shutter is working and the focus is calibrated correctly.

Later that day, I wanted to get some photos of the flowers, but I ended up getting a lot of photos of Melody instead. Here is a shot from my DIY Beauty dish, which I think turns out great!

I tried to get some macro shots through the Rolleiflex, with all my lights set up. It turned out decent, but was too dark to focus on the screen since I didn’t really have any ambient lights with my speedlights and dawn approaching.

My portrait of the Rolleiflex with the Beauty Dish, I didn’t really like the specular highlights. Especially the lens, with the harsh light so I then opted to get my softbox out to get some more interesting photos.

The lens definitely looks a lot better with the larger light source. I wanted to get the camera to say “hi,” so I lifted up its reeling mechanism and told Melody to be my background. Turns out to be some really nice product shots.

And Melody with the Rolleiflex, just playing around.

Finally I got the flowers out, its a lot harder for me to light a white flower without overexposing. But I really would rather have Melody’s face be the correct exposure since that is the true focus of this photo.

Loving the way Melody’s eyes pop on this one, just love the play with lights to make eyes look somewhat mystical.

Macro shot!

Some other poses, with the Rolleiflex inside its case.

I like, but I don’t. Just something to share with everyone.
