To continue on our training for Mt Whitney, Melody asked if I wanted to climb the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountain range. Of course I said yes, which lead us to the trail head. I was pretty pumped to get a long mileage hike in, unfortunately it was ruined by current events. I didn’t expect the trailhead to run out of just a street like this, but I guess thats what happens when you live in such a dense city like LA.
While still excited and not knowing of any news, I wanted to get a few detail shots around the trailhead.
And of trail park as Melody comes back from a pre-hike restroom break.
But as we were just about to start, a few guys come down laughing and said, “there is a murderer on the loose.” We just took this as a joke from these guys, because who would take a bunch of snickering guys with a snide remark like this seriously. We decided to hike forward until we were confronted with the truth, a path blocked by law enforcement. Well there goes our plans!
This could have been our journey, but obstructed by a potential murder suspect. He was later found dead on the trail by another hiker.
We ended up deciding to go to a near by trail, Echo Mountain, and do a quick 4 mile hike via the Same Merrill Trail. Up top, an echo phone. Also various ruins from a lodge that had been run down years ago.
The hikers, Mel and Kel.
