Back in 2013, we decided to visit Kristen Kamei’s hometown in Bishop for Mule Days. Melody used to talk about this all the time, where Mules roamed the streets and where she got her large buckled leather belt. Every time we visit Bishop, or even the Sierras of the eastern side, we end up getting some bagels and coffee at Great Basin’s. Definitely should get there early from some fresh baked goods!
After our breakfast run, we headed to the buttermilks to explore. I should go out here more often for some bouldering as well.

After the morning commute, we headed down to Main Street to catch Mule Days. This is one of the largest events in Bishop, and a town event for the day.
The mules!

There was also a little market or trading post adjacent to the road. Here we found local and traveling vendors.
That night, we attempted to meet up with my brother, who was working at Mammoth for the ski season, to try out Mammoth Brewing company and fishing. We were unsuccessful, the winds were high and the weather was cold so we ended up bundling up and heading back home.
The next morning on the other hand was definitely a lot different than the first. Here we have Kristen setting up all our lines.
Melody headed down to South Lake.
Our view, which is pretty spectacular but the water was very low. Hoping to get more rainfall this year.
A close up, you can see the people across the lake.
Kristen, the fish whisperer, caught a fish every time she casted her line. All the guys were definitely jealous.
And the fishing crew.
Here is a quick little video of the crew prepping the fish for a delicious dinner!
