Melody and I ended up looking to do a lot of local hikes in the Southern California area, and decided to get on the six pack of peaks.  Although this specific peak wasn’t part of the six-pack, we ended up looking for something shorter to start off the summer.  With the Prius, and more than a quarter tank of gas, we headed off from Long Beach.  We had a quarter tank while headed into the area, but the incline on the roads really killed our fuel efficiency, and we ended up running out of gas right at the trailhead.  As always, Melody was worried on our way over, but we definitely could have made it to the gas station on the bottom of the hill.  Instead scrambled for cell phone signal, but there was nothing.  I ended up telling Melody we should check out this call box, which was nonexistent either!  But we were lucky that there was enough service to make a call.

Time to walk back, first time using AAA! It was pretty confusing giving them the location our car was, in the Angeles National Forest, we basically had to give mile marker information.

The tow truck, with our gallon of gas!

thank you AAA!

Then we headed off on our hike to Mt. Baden-Powell, a 9,399 foot peak and 8.25 mile round trip hike.

Melody, excited to finally get on the trail.

We loved the trees along the hike, so I got a few photos of Melody while we crossed a few interesting looking ones.

There were a bunch of these disfigured tree trunks and trees, which really shows the struggling growth at these altitudes.
